"SEVERAL OFFICERS & MEN ARE INJURED"

 US ARMY AIRSHIP EXPLODES AND BURNS IN VIRGINIA

Newport News, Virginia (JFK+50) On October 10, 1924, the United States Army blimp C-2* "exploded at Langley Field**" here in Newport News.  The Associated Press reports "several officers and men were injured."

The blimp had completed a successful trip to California and arrived yesterday flying in from Aberdeen, Maryland.

*US Army C-2 was the largest non-rigid lighter-than-air airship ever made.

**Langley Field was built in 1917 as one of 32 air service training camps.
