"PROFOUNDLY INFLUENCED HISTORY OF COUNTRY & WORLD"

SENATOR LODGE, AGE 74, DIES IN CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS

Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On November 10, 1924, The Washington Times reports President Calvin Coolidge will be unable to attend the funeral of the late Senator Henry Cabot Lodge* (R-MA) and will send Secretary of War John W. Weeks in his place.

Senator Lodge, who has served thirty-one years in the upper chamber of Congress, passed away shortly before midnight last evening.  The Senator suffered a stroke on November 5.

JFK+50 NOTE

The grandson of Senator Lodge, Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., was vice-presidential running mate to Richard M. Nixon in the Election of 1960.  JFK defeated him in the Senate race of 1952 then chose him as his ambassador to South Vietnam in 1963. 

*Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was born in Beverly, MA & earned 4 degrees from Harvard University, AB, LLB, AM & PhD.  HCL was best known for his work in the US Senate on foreign policy & opposition to US entry into the League of Nations.  He served as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee 1919-1924.
