FORMER SLAVE OF GENERAL LEE DIES AT AGE 102
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 1, 1924, The Evening Star reports Mrs. Julia E. Cox, a former slave who was owned by Confederate General Robert E. Lee, "will be buried tomorrow in Harmony Cemetery."
Mrs. Cox, who came to Washington, D.C. when General Lee freed his slaves, was 102 years old. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church* here in the Nation's Capital.
The former slave was walking in the downtown district when she became ill and was taken to Emergency Hospital where she passed away.
Mrs. Cox's funeral services are to be held tomorrow afternoon at the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church with the Rev. Simon P.W. Drew** officiating.

**Rev. Simon Peter William Drew (1870-1934) was born in Margarettsville, Northampton, North Carolina.
Rev. Drew was the vice-presidential running mate of Jacob Coxey on the Interracial Independent Party ticket in 1928.
