Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) Barack Obama, Democratic Senator of Illinois, was elected this evening the 44th President of the United States.

The final electoral vote tally is 365 for Obama to 173 for McCain.
The popular vote was 69.5 million for the Democrats & 59.9 million for the Republicans.
The President-elect spoke this evening to thousands of supporters in Grant Park in Chicago.

President-elect Obama, the 1st African-American to be elected to the high office, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He is a graduate of Columbia University & Harvard Law School.
He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago & was an instructor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.
He was elected to the United States Senate in 2004.*
*President Obama has announced his intention to seek a 2nd term in 2012. The Republicans have several candidates seeking their nomination.

KENNEDYS CHECK OUT SITE OF FUTURE HOME
Atoka, Virginia (JFK+50) President & Mrs. John F. Kennedy, along with Jackie's sister Lee Radziwill, visited a farm near Rattlesnake Mountain here in Atoka, Virginia today.
The land, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains & just recently acquired by the Kennedys, will be the site of a new home for the 1st Family.
Atoka is located in Fauquier County, Virginia.*

*Mrs. Kennedy will name the country home "Wexford" after the county in Ireland where the Kennedy family originated.
It was here she made the final decision to go to Texas with JFK.
The Kennedys were only able to make 2 visits to the new home after it was completed.
The 1st visit was on Oct. 25, 1963 & the 2nd was on Nov. 10, 1963.
It was during the visit of Nov. 10 that one of the last home movies was made of JFK as he was enjoying a time of relaxation with his family.*

SENATOR JOHN F. KENNEDY RE-ELECTED
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy, projected to be the Democrat's choice for President in 1960, was re-elected to his Senate seat today by nearly 750,000 votes.
Senator Kennedy has won by the widest margin in the history of the state.
The final tally is JFK (D): 1,362,926, V.J. CELESTE (R) 488, 318.*
The Senator's brother, Edward M. "Teddy" Kennedy, was campaign manager.
*There were several other candidates in the race.

BABY GIRL BORN TO PATRICIA KENNEDY LAWFORD
Santa Monica, California (JFK+50) Senator John F. Kennedy's sister, Patricia, who is married to popular actor Peter Lawford, gave birth to a baby girl today.
The birth of Victoria Frances Lawford, at St. John's Hospital here in Santa Monica, comes on the same day that her uncle "Jack" won re-election to the United States Senate.
The baby was named "Victoria" in honor of JFK's Senate victory & "Frances" after family friend, Francis Albert "Frank" Sinatra.*
*Victoria married Robert Beebe Pender, Jr. in 1987.

KENNEDY UPSETS LODGE IN MASSACHUSETTS SENATE RACE
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) Democratic Congressman John F. Kennedy defeated Republican incumbent Henry Cabot Lodge today for the United States Senate by 70,000 votes out of more than 2.3 million votes cast.
The final vote is JFK: 1,211,984, LODGE: 1,141,247
Mr. Kennedy will be only the 3rd Democrat ever elected to the Senate from Massachusetts.
JFK's win comes with President Eisenhower's presidential election victory in both the state of Massachusetts & the nation.
Kennedy's brother, Robert, served as campaign manager.*
*An innovation in the campaign were the Kennedy "tea parties" conducted primarily for women votes by JFK's mother, Rose, & his sisters.
