"HIS YOUNGER CHILDREN DO NOT RECOGNIZE HIM"

MAN FILES SUIT FOR DAMAGES, CLAIMS PRIZED MUSTACHE WAS MALICIOUSLY SHORN

San Francisco, California (JFK+50) On April 21, 1922, James T. Maguire of Bakersfield Golf and Country Club filed a lawsuit in San Francisco justice court for having "not less than three inches in width and six inches from tip to tip" of his prized mustache shaved off "while he was asleep under a hot towel."

The suit for damages amounting to $299.09* was filed against Henry Jacoby, barber.  The complaint states that Mr. Maguire's mustache was "maliciously shorn" from his face and has so changed his appearance that "his younger children are not able to recognize him."

*$299 in 1922 is valued at $4818.60 in 2022
