JFK HAS NO COMPLAINTS ON HIS TREATMENT BY THE PRESS
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On May 9, 1962, President John F. Kennedy responded to a reporter's question at a news conference concerning the treatment his administration was getting from the press.
As he did on many other occasions, the President responded with a bit of humor. JFK said...
"I am reading more and enjoying it less...*
...but I have not complained nor do I plan to make any general complaints.
I think (the press) is doing their task as a critical branch and I am attempting to do mine and we are going to live together for a period and then go our separate ways."
*JFK's quip was based on a television commercial for Camel cigarettes which asked viewers the question "Are you smoking more and enjoying it less?" The narrator then would recommend giving Camel cigarettes a try.
JFK+50 NOTE
President Kennedy, although a smoker, preferred cigars. Mrs. Kennedy, however, was a cigarette smoker but was very careful to smoke away from public view.
According to Barry Segal, FDR, IKE & LBJ were big cigarette smokers while FORD, CARTER & TRUMP were life-long non-smokers.SOURCE
