WIFE GOES SHOPPING BUT GETS MORE THAN SHE BARGAINED FOR
Orange, New Jersey (JFK+50) On May 13, 1922, Mrs. Abraham Schindel of Orange, New Jersey took the family automobile and went shopping in East Orange. She parked on the curb in front of a store where her husband, passing by in an open trolley, saw the car and decided to get off and check it out.
Mr. Schindel was not pleased when he discovered that his wife had forgot to lock the car. So, he "turned the car around and parked it on the opposite side of the street."
When the Mrs. returned from her shopping, she could not locate her vehicle. She reported it stolen and police alerted the public to be on the lookout for the car.
Later that evening, Mr. Schindel put in a call to the police station and explained "it was just an object lesson*."
*object lesson, a striking practical example of some principle or ideal.
