"BELIEVES HE HAS 'LIMITLESS' EMERGENCY POWERS"

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL SEIZE RAILROADS & MINES IF STRIKES CONTINUE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) The interpretation placed on information disclosed  on July 14, 1922 is that, according to the New York Tribune, "unless the coal strike is speedily settled...the Federal government will take steps necessary to end the tie-up of the nation's mines."

Both legislative and executive branches of the government of the United States are ready to put a program in place if "operators and miners do not demonstrate willingness to end the mine controversy."

President Warren G. Harding "believes he has 'limitless' powers to protect the welfare of the people when they are endangered and an emergency exists."

JFK+50 NOTE

The National Emergencies Act was signed by President Gerald R. Ford in 1976 ending all previous national emergencies and formalizing the emergency powers of the POTUS.
