LONG SKIRTS DISCOURAGE KICKING & ERRATIC MOVEMENTS OF THE JAZZ STEP
New York City (JFK+50) On August 22, 1922, the Evening Star reports Ned Gaynor of Culver Military Academy* "welcomes back the long skirt."
Major Gaynor is a leader of the American National Association of Masters of Dancing** meeting here in New York. He maintains "the long skirt discourages kicking and the erratic movements of the jazz step."
The Major said...
"Ninety-five percent of ballroom naughtiness is due to ignorance (while) the other five percent is vulgarity."
*Culver Military Academy is a private school located in Culver, Indiana & founded in 1894 by Henry Harrison Culver. Offering grades 9-12, CMA became co-educational in 1971.
**ANAMD was founded in 1884 in Boston, MA & jointed with the International Masters of Dancing in 1926 to form the Dancing Masters of America.
