"ALONG WITH $5 GOLD PIECE HE USED FOR PAYMENT"

PRESIDENT HARDING'S AUTOGRAPHED BASEBALL TICKET WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF AT BENEFIT GAME

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 23, 1922, the Evening Star reports President Warren G. Harding "not only bought tickets" for the annual base ball game at American League Park* (September 9) held for benefit of the policemen's and firemen's widows and orphans fund "but (als0) autographed his ticket, No. 1" for auction at the game along with the $5 gold piece he used as payment.

The auction is expected to bring "several hundred dollars" for the benefit fund.  The Star also reports that Detective James Springman visited the White House today to sell the ticket President Harding signed.

*American League Park I was home to the Washington Senators 1901-1903.  ALP II was located at the current site of Howard University Hospital, 5th St. W & Florida Ave NW, Washington, D.C.
