WILLIAM VANDERBILT TO BEGIN CAREER IN BANKING
New York City (JFK+50) On October 10, 1922, William H. Vanderbilt III*, son of the late Alfred G. Vanderbilt, "decided to become a banker" and, according to the Evening Star, will begin his career "as a clerk in the U.S. Trust Company" on Wall Street."
The soon-to-be twenty-one year old Vanderbilt lost his father in the sinking of the Lusitania but will inherit a $5 million trust fund on his 21st birthday.
What better way for a would-be banker to begin his career in banking than with a $5 million trust fund in tow?
*William Henry Vanderbilt III (1901-1981) was born in New York City & attended Princeton University. WHV III served in the Rhode Island Senate, 1929-1935 & Governor of Rhode Island, 1939-1941.
