"BIGGEST THING SINCE THE ARMISTICE"

U.S. AID TO EUROPE LAUDED BY MANCHESTER GUARDIAN 

Manchester, England (JFK+50) On December 17, 1922, the Evening Star published a front page story stating that the Manchester (England) Guardian* has hailed potential American aid to Europe as the "biggest thing since the Armistice."

The Guardian states...

"It means...the whole moral weight of the most powerful nation in the world will be thrown into the scales.

American aloofness has been paid for at a great price by Europe, but...now...it may be that the price was worth it."

JFK+50 NOTE

According to Encyclopedia.com, "relief in Europe by U.S. agencies during World War I extended from 1914 through 1923." Six billion dollars worth of food and supplies was provided. 

*Manchester Guardian was founded in 1821 by John Edward Taylor & 1st published on May 5, 1821.  The paper was published daily beginning in 1855.  In 2018, it was relaunched in a new tabloid format.
