KING TUT'S SARCOPHAGUS FOUND BY ARCHEOLOGISTS
Luxor, Egypt (JFK+50) On February 16, 1923, "the sarcophagus of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen* was found when the inner chamber in his tomb was opened by archeologists."
The town of Luxor** was flooded with visitors in anticipation of the opening of King Tut's tomb. Archeologists also discovered "many articles of furniture in the mortuary chamber."
*Tutankhamen (1341 BC-1323 BC) Pharaoh of 18th dynasty of Ancient Egypt. Tut assumed the throne at age 9 & reigned until his death at age 19. He was one of the few kings worshipped as a deity during his lifetime.
**Luxor is a modern city of Egypt which includes the site of the Ancient City of Thebes. Luxor is known as the world's greatest open-air museum & is one of the oldest inhabited cities of the world.
