"A DECIDED SLUMP ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE"

REPUBLICAN VOTER ENROLLMENT DOWN IN NEW JERSEY

Newark, New Jersey (JFK+50) On March 15, 1923, The Newark Courier reports official enrollment figures just made public by Secretary of State James A. Hamilton* reveal "a decided slump on the Republican side."

The figures show 137,921 fewer enrolled Republicans in New York State compared to 1922.  Democrats, on the other hand, gained 65,794 enrollees.

Socialist Party and Farm Labor enrollment also increased while Prohibition Party enrollment "remains about the same."

The Courier says that Republican losses were highest in the Greater New York area and in Erie County.  Both parties showed gains in Wayne County.
