WORLD MOURNS DEATH OF FRENCH ACTRESS SARAH BERNHARDT
Paris, France (JFK+50) On March 27, 1923, the Washington Times via the International News Service reported the death of "the divine" Sarah Bernhardt* the previous evening.
The Times states that "messages of condolence" were pouring into Paris "from all nations."
President Millerand and Premier Poincare were among the first to extend their sympathy to members of the family.
*Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) was born in Paris & became a stage actress starring in the most popular plays of France in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. SB was one of the first prominent actresses to make sound recordings & act in movies.
