POLICE DOG DEMONSTRATION HELD AT THE STAR BUILDING
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On the afternoon of March 3, 1923, a police dog* demonstration was held "on the 11th street side of The Star Building" here in the Nation's Capital.
Wolf, "police dog extraordinary" talked loudly into a telephone receiver "as a signal of distress" and demonstrated how to "trip up" escaping prisoners and then guard them.
Wolf also ascended a ladder to a window of the Star Building and walked "on the edge of the roof." The police dog is owned by John W. Staggers of Washington, D.C. and was trained by C.W. Rose of Ithaca, New York.
*police dogs are trained to assist police & other law enforcement officers. Their duties include drugs & explosives searches, location of missing persons, finding criminal evidence & attacking suspects attempting to flee from arrest.
The most common breeds used for police training are German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Bloodhounds, Dutch Shepherds & Retrievers. Police dogs are identified as K-9 (canine).
