"USING UNFAIR METHODS OF COMPETITION IN COMMERCE"

GOVERNMENT ALLEGES MOVIE INDUSTRY IS UNDER MONOPOLISTIC CONTROL

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 18, 1923, the Evening Star reports "for the first time in the history of the 'movies,' the United States government has opened fire on the vast motion picture industry, which is alleged to be under monopolistic control."

The Federal Trade Commission is charging "a powerful group of corporations and individuals...with using unfair methods of competition in commerce."

William H. Fuller, chief counsel of the FTC, will conduct hearings in New York City beginning April 23rd.  Paul D. Cravath* will represent the defense.

*Paul Drennan Cravath (1861-1940) was born in Berlin Heights, Ohio & graduated Oberlin College 1882, Columbia Law School 1886 & was a prominent Manhattan attorney for Cravath, Swaine & Moore, a leading law firm practicing still today.

JFK+50 NOTE

This is a sad day in the JFK+50 household.  My wife of 52 years passed away early this morning after a long illness. She has been under Hospice care and bedridden since February 2022.  

Beverly Charlene (Bailey) White leaves behind our precious daughter Jennifer Leigh (White) Mangone, son-in-law David & 7 month old grandson August Parker Mangone.
