"OPENING ADDRESS TO NATIONAL AMERICAN COUNCIL"

PRESIDENT CALLS FOR A REDEDICATION TO AIMS & PURPOSES OF THE GOVERNMENT

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On May 24, 1923, the Alaska Daily Empire reports President Warren G. Harding "recently...appealed for re-dedication of the people to the aims and purposes of the government as set forth in the constitution."

The President's appeal came in an address to the opening of the National American Council*.  The Empire says that President Harding feels this rededication "would furnish to the nation a commanding and dominating national interest which has been lacking since the war."

President Harding said...

"Human society never faced a more complex or more difficult situation."

*The National American Council was recently formed to encourage better American citizenship.
