SENATE COMMITTEE UTILIZING DOCTORS & LAWYERS IN VETERAN'S BUREAU INVESTIGATION
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On June 17, 1923, The Sunday Star reports Senator David A. Reed* (R-Pennsylvania), chairman of the Senate committee investigating the Veteran's Bureau, revealed yesterday "a regiment of lawyers and physicians" are assisting "in running down charges of graft and inefficiency in the bureau."
The Sunday Star front page report says that the lawyers...
"are now...acting as investigators for the committee, serving without pay."
Some investigators have turned up "serious cases." Hearings are to be held by the committee in October and November, 1923.
*David Aiken Reed (1880-1953) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania & graduated from Princeton University (1900) & University of Pittsburgh Law School (1903. DAR served as U.S. Senator 1922-1935.
JFK+50 NOTE
505 lawyers and 287 physicians were at work for the committee.
