"GREATEST PERIL TO REPUBLICAN HOPES & ASPIRATIONS"

KANSAS REPUBLICANS RESTLESS ABOUT AGRICULTURAL PROBLEM

Hutchinson, Kansas (JFK+50) On June 23, 1923, President Warren G. Harding arrived in Kansas, "the heart of the wheat belt," to face, according to David Lawrence of the Evening Star, "the greatest peril...to Republican hopes and aspirations--agricultural unrest."

The President took dinner with Senator Arthur Capper (R-Kansas) who describes a 'spirit of restlessness' among the party's leaders in his state.

Mr. Harding is scheduled to address farmers later in the day on the agricultural problem.

*Arthur C. Capper (1865-1951) was born in Garnett, Kansas & became owner of WIBW radio station, Topeka & publisher of the Topeka Daily Capital.  ACC served as Governor of Kansas 1915-1919 & US Senator 1919-1949.
