"IT'S UP TO D.C. ROTARIANS TO CHANGE THE NAME"

ROTARIANS OF WASHINGTON N.C. 'BEG' ROTARIANS OF WASHINGTON D.C. TO CHANGE NAME OF CAPITAL CITY

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On September 27, 1925, The Sunday Star reports Rotarian Edmund Harding of Washington, North Carolina wants the Rotarians of the Nation's Capital to change the name of their city.

The Carolina Rotarians have issued the following resolution...

"Whereas, our people have been (humiliated) through this city being referred to as 'Little Washington' to designate it from Washington, D.C., and...

whereas our own town holds the distinction of being the first post office in the country to bear the name Washington...

be it resolved that the Rotarian Club of Washington, North Carolina beg the Rotarian Club of Washington, D.C. to...bring about a change in the name of our Capital City."
