"I RESENT THAT REMARK!"

IT'S DICK NIXON FROM HOLLYWOOD & JACK KENNEDY FROM NEW YORK

Hollywood & New York City (JFK+50) On October 13, 1960, the third presidential debate of the Election of 1960 was televised from studios in Hollywood and New York City.

The Republican nominee, Vice-President Richard M. Nixon was in California while the Democratic nominee, Senator John F. Kennedy was in New York.  The candidates were able to see each other on the monitors in their respective studios.

The third debate was moderated by Bill Shadel of ABC News.  The moderator and a panel of reporters were in Chicago.

During the debate, the Vice-President said that the Democratic platform called for a budget $10 billion dollars higher than the Republican budget.  Mr. Kennedy responded by saying...

"I believe in a balanced budget and have supported that during 14 years in the Congress."

Mr. Kennedy was quoted as calling Mr. Nixon "trigger happy" when it came to Quemoy & Matsu.  The Vice-President responded that he "resented that remark" and reminded the audience that Republican presidents had not led the nation into war in the last 50 years.
