"90% OF POPULATION IDENTIFY WITH CATHOLIC FAITH"

MEXICO DEPORTS 200 FOREIGN-BORN CLERGYMEN

Mexico City, Mexico (JFK+50) On March 15, 1926, Associated Press reports that Mexico's Department of Interior has announced "202 foreign clergymen have been expelled" from the country.

There is a constitutional requirement which states only native-born ministers are allowed to officiate in church services.

AP says that the majority of those expelled are of the Catholic faith.

90% of the population of Mexico in 1926 identified with the Catholic church although there was an ongoing state-driven campaign of secularization & anti-clericalism.
