RAT PACK

On December 8, 1993, the North American Fair Trade Agreement was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. 


The "largest trade agreement in the world" was signed by representatives of Canada, Mexico & the United States.  


The agreement eliminated most trade and investment barriers between these three nations.

30 years ago, December 8, 1980, John Lennon was killed in New York City.



On December 8, 1961, President Kennedy & assistant, David Powers, attended mass at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Palm Beach, Florida.


Actor/singer Sammy Davis, Jr. was born on December 8, 1925.  


Davis was a member of the "Rat Pack" which has often been associated with JFK (Sammy, Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra).



On December 8, 1863, President Lincoln issued his "Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction." 


The proposal was called the "Ten Per Cent Plan" because only 10% of registered voters within a former Confederate state were required to take a "loyalty oath" to the USA in order for that state to be readmitted to the Union. 


The plan was seen as much too lenient by the radical members of the Republican Party.


On December 8, 1765, the inventor of the cotton gin, Eli Whitney was born.
