"BILL HALEY & THE COMETS" INVADE BRITAIN
Two years after "Rock Around the Clock" became the 1st "rock-n-roll" hit record, "Bill Haley & The Comets" have arrived in Great Britain to begin a tour.
As the group disembarked the Queen Elizabeth at Southampton, they were greeted by thousands of young fans at Waterloo Station. The tour would provide the group's young British fans to see their first live "rock-n-roll" concert.

SOUTH VIETNAM WANTS DOUBLE SUPPORT
The government of South Vietnam, fighting against the communists in Southeast Asia, asked today for the United States to double its advisory military assistance personnel from 342 to 685.
The advisory group was formed in 1955. It was originally known as the United States Military Assistance and Advisory Group.

FDR ANNOUNCES "COURT-PACKING" PLAN
President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced a plan today to increase the number of justices on the United States Supreme Court from 9 to as many as 15.
The proposal comes after several of the President's "New Deal" programs were overturned as unconstitutional by the high court.*
*FDR's proposal did not win support. In fact, it was opposed by many members of his own Democratic Party. The plan was later soundly defeated in the US Senate. Most historians believe FDR was "over-reaching" for more power than the Constitution provided for the President of the United States.
