JFK CONCLUDES TRIP TO MEXICO


President John F. Kennedy & Mexican President Adolfo Lopez Mateos gave each other a hug today as they concluded 3 days of talks in Mexico City.


Mateos has embraced not only JFK but his Alliance For Progress to promote economic development, social progress & political fellowship among all Latin American nations.


This morning, 5000 people greeted JFK & Mrs. Kennedy as they entered the Basilica of Our Lady Guadalupe for Sunday Mass.

JFK VISITS ROME


President John F. Kennedy traveled to Rome, Italy today for a meeting with Italian President Giovanni Leone on NATO & economic issues.


Their meeting took place at the Palazzo Quirinale.


Later, at the Piazza Venezia, JFK participated in a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

KENNEDYS ENJOY HOLIDAYS SAILING


President John F. Kennedy joined his father, Joseph, his brother, Ted & wife Joan, along with cousin Ann Gargin & close friend LeMoyne Billings for the holidays.


The group enjoyed an outing on Joe's boat, the Marlin.

ROSEMARY KENNEDY ENTERS ST. COLETTA


The daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. & the brother of Congressman John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts, Rosemary, was admitted to St. Coletta School today.


Miss Kennedy, who has been diagnosed with mental retardation, will be cared for at the institution for the handicapped which is located in Wisconsin.*


*Rosemary died on January 7, 2005 at the age of 86.

ROUGH RIDERS ADVANCE ON SAN JUAN HEIGHTS


US General William Shafter ordered an attack on the Spanish positions near El Caney in Cuba today.


The Rough Riders, a collection of western cowboys & eastern dandies which includes the former Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Theodore Roosevelt, took part in the action.


The Rough Riders, who were without horses, joined African-American units, called Buffalo Soldiers, in charging up San Juan Hill.

ARMIES CLASH AT GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA


The Army of the Potomac under the command of General George G. Meade met up with the Army of Northern Virginia led by General Robert E. Lee today in southern Pennsylvania near the town of Gettysburg.


Lee's forces had been marching northward since early June & his advanced units who went into the small town looking for shoes clashed with Meade's advanced forces.


By the end of the day, the Union army had taken positions on the high ground south of the town.  Lee's forces occupied Seminary Ridge.


More fighting is expected in the coming days.
