PATRICK BOUVIER KENNEDY DIES
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) Only 39 hours after his birth, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, the son of President & Mrs. John F. Kennedy, died today at Children's Hospital of complications from hyaline membrane disease.*
*Hyaline membrane disease is caused by the development of an insufficiency of surfactant production & structural immaturity of the lungs. It is the leading cause of death in premature births.
Death came at 4:04 a.m.
Patrick will be buried tomorrow in Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline, Massachusetts.

LEE HARVEY OSWALD ARRESTED AFTER FIGHT
New Orleans, Louisiana (JFK+50) Lee Harvey Oswald, secretary of the New Orleans chapter of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, was arrested today after getting in an altercation with a group of anti-Castro Cubans.
Mr. Oswald, who will be held overnight by New Orleans police, was in the process of handing out pro-Castro leaflets when the fight broke out.

JFK APPOINTS PARSONS AS DISTRICT JUDGE
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) President John F. Kennedy appointed James B. Parsons today as a federal district judge.
Judge Parsons will become the 1st African-American jurist to be offered a position with life tenure in the government of the United States.
James Parsons is a native of Kansas City, Missouri & received his law degree from the University of Chicago.
The President notified Judge Parsons of his appointment in a telephone call from the White House this morning.
When JFK came on the line & informed the Judge of his appointment, Parsons, a former naval officer, replied "Aye, Aye Sir!"

NIXON DEPARTS WHITE HOUSE, GERALD FORD SWORN-IN AS 38th PRESIDENT
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) An embattled Richard M. Nixon, having officially resigned the Presidency, departed the White House today for the last time as President of the United States.
Before his departure, Mr. Nixon gave an emotional farewell speech in the East Room to his staff while his family stood behind him.
The Nixons flew to their home in San Clemente, California.
Shortly thereafter, Vice-President Gerald R. Ford took the oath of office as the 38th President,

JESSE OWENS WINS 4TH GOLD MEDAL
Berlin, Germany (JFK+50) African-American track star Jesse Owens won his 4th gold medal today here in the 1936 Summer Olympic Games.
The medal was awarded to Owens & his relay team which set a new world record.*
*4000 athletes from 49 nations attended the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
