Hang down your head & cry
Hang down your head Tom Dooley
Poor boy you're bound to die."

New York City (JFK+50) The folk song "Tom Dooley" performed by the Kingston Trio reached #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts today.

The song, which has been around since the 1860s, is about a North Carolina man named Tom Dula who was hanged for the murder of his fiance.*

*The Kingston Trio was very popular in the early 1960s.  I was part of a local folk group which we patterned after the K.T.  We called ourselves "The Greenbrier Trio".
