GOING NATIONWIDE I
Knoxville, Tennessee (JFK+50) Today we begin our report on Chapter 5 of the book by Kenneth P. O'Donnell & David F. Powers with Joe McCarthy. It is published by Little, Brown & Company.
The title of Chapter 5 is GOING NATIONWIDE.
Kenneth O'Donnell begins this chapter by saying that the year 1957 was "one of (JFK's) happiest & most exciting years."
It was the year he began his run for the office of President of the United States.
Kenny tells us that JFK accepted 144 speaking invitations that year out of the more than 2500 offered.
Added to that, Jack Kennedy had won the Pulitzer Prize for his book "Profiles In Courage" & was appointed to a coveted seat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The Kennedys moved back to Georgetown into the house on N Street where they would live until JFK's move to the White House.

Kenny writes that JFK's campaign for the Presidency followed the same pattern as his run for the Senate. He went about getting himself known.
And JFK went about getting to know the important movers & shakers in the Democratic Party all over the country.
In the meantime, Kenny was working with Bobby on the McClellan Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in the Labor or Management Field. It was also called the Senate Rackets Committee.
