JFK MEETS WITH NIXON TO UNIFY NATION AFTER CLOSE ELECTION
Key Biscayne, Florida (JFK+50) President-elect John F. Kennedy & Vice-President Richard M. Nixon met today here in Key Biscayne in an attempt to unify the nation following last Tuesday's close presidential election.
Mr. Kennedy & Mr. Nixon met in a private conference at the Key Biscayne Hotel & held a brief meeting with the press afterwards.
The Vice-President was offered no position in the Kennedy administration.
Meanwhile, the absentee ballots continue to be counted in California. Mr. Kennedy holds a narrow lead of 24,091 popular votes in the state, but by the time all these votes are counted, Mr. Nixon could easily be awarded California's 32 electoral votes.
If this does happen, however, it will not change the outcome of the election as Mr. Kennedy has a comfortable lead in the electoral college vote.*

*California would be awarded to Nixon. The final electoral count was 303-219. California & Pennsylvania each had 32 electoral votes in 1960, with New York having 45. JFK won both Pennsylvania & New York.
