JULIE NIXON AND DAVID EISENHOWER WED

JULIE NIXON MARRIED DAVID EISENHOWER 45 YEARS AGO 

New York City  (JFK+50) 45 years ago today, December 22, 1968,  Julie Nixon*, daughter of Richard M. and Patricia Nixon, married David Eisenhower**, grandson of Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower, here in New York City.

The famous couple began dating in 1966 and were engaged in 1967.  They first met, however, at the Republican National Convention in 1956 when they both were 8 years old.

The Reverend Norman Vincent Peale officiated the ceremony held at the Marble Collegiate Church.

Mr. Eisenhower's best man was Fred Grandy, the actor who appeared in the popular television series "Love Boat".


*Julie Nixon Eisenhower was born on July 5, 1948.  She attended Sidwell Friends School in Washington and Smith College.  JNE took an active role in her dad's 1968 presidential campaign.

When Caroline and JFK, Jr. visited the White House in 1971, Julie and her sister Trisha entertained the former 1st children.

Julie and David lived in Berwyn, Pennsylvania where they raised 3 children.

**Dwight David Eisenhower II was born on March 31, 1948.  He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and earned a BA in history at Amherst College.  David served in the Naval Reserve and earned his law degree at George Washington University Law School.

The presidential retreat in Maryland, Camp David, was named in his honor.
