THE BEATLES AT CANDLESTICK

JFK+50:  Volume 6, No. 2053

BEATLES GAVE LAST PAID LIVE CONCERT 50 YEARS AGO

San Francisco, California (JFK+50) It was the last concert of the Beatles' North American Tour of 1966 and it was to be the final paid live concert performed by the Fab Four.  The venue was Candlestick Park here in the City by the Bay.  It sold 25,000 tickets and it would be a turning point in the careers of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

According to Palash Ghosh, writing for International Business Times, the Beatles' music had "become far too complex and sophisticated to play as a four-piece band on stage."  They would give up the concert tour for their EMI recording studio in London.

Nonetheless, Mr. Ghosh writes...

"The music and magic they created as a foursome during the 1960s will never be surpassed..."

The North American Tour included seventeen cities in the United States and two in Canada.  It started on August 12 and concluded here in San Francisco on August 29, 1966.

Their set included 11 songs in the following order...

1. Rock n Roll Music
2. She's a Woman
3. If I Needed Someone
4. Day Tripper
5. Babys in Black
6. I Feel Fine
7. Yesterday
8. I Wanna Be Your Man
9. Nowhere Man
10.Paperback Writer
11.Long Tall Sally
