CAROLINE KENNEDY'S AMBASSADORSHIP TO JAPAN ENDS
Tokyo, Japan (JFK+50) Caroline Kennedy's tenure as United States Ambassador to Japan ended Friday with the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump. The 45th POTUS had asked all non-career ambassadors to leave their posts by January 20th.
The daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy began her ambassadorship in 2013. In a video message, the Ambassador said...
"I want to thank the people of Japan for taking me and my family into their hearts."
Caroline added that serving as ambassador to their country was the "greatest privilege" of her life. She went on to recall meeting the wife of the captain of the Japanese destroyer that had sunk her father's PT109 in the South Pacific during World War II.
Ambassador Kennedy also thanked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe* for hosting President Barack Obama at Hiroshima and for his visit to Pearl Harbor.
Ashley Collman, writing for the Daily Mail, says that Caroline's parents are "revered figures" in Japan and she "is considered American royalty."
*Shinzo Abe was born in Tokyo in 1954 to a political family. SA graduated from Seikei University in 1977 & studied public policy at the University of Southern California.
SA served in the Japanese House of Representatives from 1993 to 2006 before being elected as the 57th PM of Japan. SA has been serving as the 63rd PM of Japan since Dec 26, 2012.
