FRENCH PM SAYS U.S. FLAG FLYING ON FRONT WILL BRING VICTORY

Paris, France (JFK+50) One hundred years ago today, May 22, 1917, Premier Alexandre Ribot*, speaking in the Chamber of Deputies**, said...

"Once the American flag is flying on the French front Germany will be forced to ask for peace."

The Premier added...

"France...wishes a durable peace.  If the German people comprehended this it would make peace easier to attain."

*Alexandre Felix-Joseph Ribot (1842-1923) was born in Saint-Omer, Pas-de=Calais.  He was laureat of the faculty of law at the University of Paris.  AFJR served as prime minister of France 1892-93, 1895, 1914 & 1917.

**Chamber of Deputies (1875-1940) during the Third Republic was the legislative assembly of the French Parliament elected by universal suffrage.
