According to Nate D. Sanders Auctions, the United States silk flag that was draped over President John F. Kennedy's casket in the Rotunda of the Capitol was given to Staff Sergeant Vernon Eastin who co-ordinated the Air Force Honor Guards that stood watch near JFK's body.*
The Nate D. Sanders Auctions website describes that particular flag as...
"probably one of the most symbolic and emotionally charged relics of American history--commemorating not valor or victory, but, rather tragedy."
Sgt. Eastin wrote...
"As part of my regular duties, I was required to provide military personnel for all official parades and special functions."
The Sergeant also furnished the Air Force personnel to march in the funeral parade and participate in the internment at Arlington National Cemetery.
*The flag was up for auction according to the Nate D. Sanders website on February 7, 2014.
