PRESIDENT CANCELS OUT OF TOWN ENGAGEMENTS FOR NEXT 3 MONTHS
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 20, 1921, "it was indicated at the White House" that President Warren G. Harding "is disposed to remain in Washington for the next three months."
The President will cancel all engagements planned in "various parts of the country." The reason given by the Evening Star is that Mr. Harding is under the "pressure of business in connection with the armament conference and the regular session of Congress."
A letter has been sent from the White House to Senator F.M. Simmons* (D-NC) cancelling the President's attendance of the 150th anniversary of St. John's Masonic Lodge in New Bern**.
A speaking engagement at the Ohio Society in New York has also been cancelled.
*Furnifold McLendel Simmons (1854-1940) was born in Pollocksville, NC & served in the US House of Representatives 1887-1889 & US Senate 1901-1931. FMS was a staunch segregationist & white supremacist.
