INSANE WOMAN RESCUED FROM PERILOUS PERCH IN TREE
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 27, 1922, Mrs. Annie Lymboropolos, an inmate at St. Elizabeths Hospital*, "was rescued from her perilous perch in a tree, leaning over the edge of a ravine seventy-five feet deep." The tree is located on the hospital grounds.
Attendant T. W. Southall climbed a fire ladder and "carried the protesting woman to safety."
Mrs. Lymboropolos, who previously had disowned her husband, was taken back to her ward "in a state of frenzy."
*St. Elizabeths is a psychiatric hospital located in Southeast Washington, D.C. SE is operated by the District of Columbia Department of Behavioral Health. It opened in 1855 as the 1st federally operated psychiatric hospital in the U.S.
