"ARRANGEMENTS TO HANDLE A MILLION PEOPLE"

LINCOLN MEMORIAL DEDICATION WILL GIVE MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE 'TOUCH OF GLORY'

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On May 28, 1922, the Sunday Star reports that the coming dedication of the Lincoln Memorial, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, May 30th, "will give the observance of Memorial Day in the National Capital a 'touch of glory.'"

Prior to Tuesday afternoon's dedication, "there will be the usual exercises at the Arlington amphitheater."  The GAR* and other organizations will participate.

"Arrangements have been made to handle a million people" at the Lincoln Memorial ceremonies.  The attendees can be assured of hearing the speakers as a "loud speaker (will) carry every word."

Chief Justice William Howard Taft will preside and the memorial will be formally accepted on behalf of the people of the United States by President Warren G. Harding.

*Grand Army of the Republic (1866-1956) a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the US Army, Navy & Marine Corps who served in the Civil War.
