CROWD GREETS HARDING'S ARRIVAL FOR CHURCH SERVICES
Atlantic City, New Jersey (JFK+50) On May 14, 1922, "thousands lined the streets and jammed about the little Chelsea Baptist Church*" to see President Warren G. Harding and his party arrive for Sunday morning services.
A cordon of police and city detectives were deployed around the church until the Presidential party was safely inside. Everyone in the party wore a white carnation in honor of Mother's Day.
The President joined in with the singing of hymns and listened intently to the sermon given by Rev. Thomas J. Cross who was pastor at Chelsea 1911-1929.
In regard to his vacation time in New Jersey, President Harding said...
"It was the best outing I have enjoyed since I went to Washington."
