REV MANN LEADING MOVEMENT TO NOMINATE REV FREEMAN FOR PRESIDENT OF EPISCOPAL HOUSE OF DEPUTIES
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On August 28, 1922, the Evening Star reports "a strong movement to nominate Rev. James E. Freeman*, rector of the Church of the Epiphany, at Washington, D.C., for the office of president of the House of Deputies of the Protestant Episcopal Church...is well under way in this section of New England."
The nomination would take place in Portland, Oregon on September 6, 1922.
The Star further reports that Rev. Dr. Alexander Mann**, rector of Boston's Trinity Church*** is leading the movement.
*James Edward Freeman (1866-1943) was born in New York City & served as 3rd bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Washington, D.C., 1923-1943.
**Alexander Mann (1860-1948) was born in Geneva, NY & graduated Hobart College 1881, Dr of Divinty 1896 & Dr of Laws Kenyon College 1923. AM served as Bishop of Pittsburgh 1923-1943.
***Trinity Church is located at 206 Clarenton St, Boston, MA. TC was founded in 1733 & currently serves 4000 households.
