"REED, AS SENATOR, WON'T DO MUCH TALKING"

REED SAYS HE DOES NOT PLAY GOLF OR POKER

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 16, 1922, David A. Reed* arrived in the Nation's Capital to take the oath of office as a United States senator.

Mr. Reed, who was appointed on August 8th to fill the vacancy in the United States Senate representing Pennsylvania, announced "he (does) not play golf...or poker."

What he does do, according to the New York Tribune, is play tennis and ride a horse.  Hopefully not both at the same time.

As far as his immediate role as Senator, Mr. Reed plans "to preserve a discreet silence and not do too much talking."
