"THE WORLD'S FATE IS IN THE HANDS OF AMERICA"

COX CALLS FOR QUICK ACTION TO BRING ABOUT THE REHABILITATION OF EUROPE

London (JFK+50) On August 26, 1922, former presidential candidate James M. Cox* issued a statement to the American and British press here in London dealing with the economic plight of Europe.

Governor Cox asserts "the fate of the world is in the hands of America," and urges quick action...to bring about the rehabilitation of Europe."

The former Democratic standard-bearer states...

"Unless relief is granted (to Germany) shops will soon be closed, millions will be out of employment, and the winter will bring...starvation."

James Middleton Cox (1870-1957) was born in Jacksonburg, Ohio & served in the US House of Representatives 1909-1913, as Governor of Ohio 1913-1915 & 1915-1921.  JMC lost the Election of 1920 to W.G. Harding by the largest popular vote margin in history.
