KID MCCOY'S WEDDING PLANS CANCELLED WHEN BRIDE DISCOVERS TELEGRAM SIGNED 'REDHEAD'
Los Angeles, California (JFK+50) On September 12, 1922, the Evening Star reports that Kid McCoy*'s ninth romance "is wrecked."
Mrs. Jacqueline McDowell came to Los Angeles from Baltimore to become McCoy's "partner for life" and a marriage license had been issued "several days ago."
Marriage plans were abruptly cancelled, however, when Mrs. McDowell "accidentally discovered" a telegram sent to her prospective husband by someone signed "Redhead."
The Star reports that the discovery of the telegram "delivered the knockout to the ex-pugilist's** wedding plans."
*Charles 'Kid' McCoy, a.k.a. Norman Selby (1872-1940) was born in Moscow, Indiana & became a boxer & movie actor. CKM won the world middleweight in 1906. He was married 10 times & in 1924 was convicted of manslaughter in the death of a woman.
