"COMMERCE SECRETARY HAS SEVERE INDIGESTION"

HERBERT HOOVER CONFINED TO BED FOR SEVERAL DAYS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 6, 1922, Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover* is "confined to his bed" at his residence on S Street** here in the Nation's Capital.

The commerce secretary became ill yesterday when he was in New York City to attend the American Banker's Association*** dinner in the evening.

Mr. Hoover came down with "a severe attack of indigestion" which, although not serious, will keep him out of the office for several days.

Unable to attend the dinner, the Secretary caught the last train out of New York last night.

*Herbert Clark Hoover (1874-1964) was born in West Branch, Iowa & served as Director of the U.S. Food Administration 1917-18 & Secretary of Commerce 1921-1928,  HCH was the 31st POTUS, serving 1929-1933.

**The Hoovers lived at 2300 S St., NW in Washington, D.C. 1921-1929.
