"SEIZED LIQUOR FOR OWN USE OR GIVEN AWAY"

ACTIONS BY DOJ OFFICIALS 'SEVERELY CONDEMNED' BY GRAND JURY

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 2, 1922, the Grand Jury issued a report condemning federal agents for withdrawing "a number of trunks (and) suitcases...containing liquor" at Union Station between July 29 and September 11, 1920 without a warrant.

Although an indictment is not forthcoming on the charges that officials representing the Justice Department "had taken for their own use (or) given away intoxicating liquors which had been seized," the Grand Jury's report states the officials actions "cannot be too severely condemned."
