"ONE OF MOST INFLUENTIAL SCIENTISTS OF ALL TIME"

ISSAC NEWTON BORN

Grantham, U.K. (JFK+50) On January 4, 1643, 380 years ago today, future scientist Sir Issac Newton* was born at Woolsthorpe Manor House here in Grantham.

He attended Trinity College in Cambridge and became  a physicist, mathematician and astronomer.  

Newton formulated the laws of motion and universal gravitation and built the first practical reflecting telescope.

The Royal Society describes Issac Newton as "one of the most influential scientists of all time and a key figure in the scientific revolution."

He was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705.

*Issac Newton (1643-1727) served in Parliament 1689-1690 & 1701-1702. He has been called  "the culminating figure in the scientific revolution of the 17th century."
