"COWS DID NOT DEVELOP PIG-LIKE TRAITS"

SOW GLAND SERUM MAKES OLD COWS YOUNG & FRISKY

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (JFK+50) It was announced on February 15, 1923 that "the principle employed in monkey glands for rejuvenation has been used with success in experiments on cows."

The announcement came from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Animal Industry* that found when eleven 'grandmother cows' were given serum extracted from the glands of sows, they "were made young and frisky."

The New York Tribune reports that the cows did not develop any pig-like traits in the experiments.

*There was also a National Bureau of Animal Industry created in 1884 & charged with preventing diseased animals from being used as food.  BAI also promoted livestock disease research.  It was under direction of the Bureau of Agriculture.
