ASIATIC FLEET HEADS FOR JAPAN
Manila (JFK+50) The Evening Star reports* "the northern movement of the Asiatic fleet...started at 1 a.m." on March 31, 1923.
The first contingent of the fleet heading for Japan is under the command of Rear Admiral Edwin A. Anderson** who is aboard the flagship Huron. Within one week, the Star reports six destroyers of the 38th division will follow.
Cities to be visited will include Yokohama and Kobe.

**Edwin Alexander Anderson, Jr. (1860-1933) was born in Wilmington, NC & graduated US Naval Academy 1882, served in the Spanish-American War & was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his part in the 1914 American intervention at Veracruz. USS Anderson (DD441) is named in his honor.
