SENATOR JONES CALLS FOR REPUBLICAN PARTY UNITY
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 8, 1923, the Sunday Star reports Senator Wesley L. Jones*, issued last night a statement calling for party unity in the Senate and co-operation between the (Warren G. Harding) administration and Congress" in order to achieve success for the Republican Party "as an instrument of government."
The Senator recommends "free and frequent conferences among the Senators and between Senators and the executive officials."
Chairman Jones also "chides" progressives because they have not been attending party conferences. He feels their "aid and advice is needed."
He is disappointed in those Republican Senators who are "doing and advocating what (they) think (their) constituents want." Senator Jones argues that this course does not demonstrate "statesmanship**" and will not result in "lasting approval."
