D.A.R. OPPOSED TO COMMUNISM, SOCIALISM & RADICALISM
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 17, 1923, the 32nd Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution prepared "to launch a relentless counter campaign against pacifism* and radical propaganda in the United States."
The Evening Star reports that the organization's efforts are "spurred by the patriotic addresses of President (Warren G.) Harding, Secretary of State (Charles E.) Hughes and Mrs. George Maynard Minor**, the incumbent president-general of the society."
The D.A.R. convention received resolutions calling for the demise of peace organizations and "the forces of communism, socialism and...radicalism."
One of these resolutions states...
"The history of mankind has shown that no nation has long remained free once it lost the will and power to defend itself."
*pacifism is the belief that war, or violence of any kind, is not justified for any reason & that all disputes should be settled peacefully.
**Anne Rogers Minor (1864-1947) was born in East Lynne, Connecticut & became a landscape painter. ARM opened the Konomoc Inn, a summer hotel in Waterford, Connecticut. She joined the DAR in 1894 & served as president, 1920-1923.
